Beeswax Candle Making – A Great Project with Your Kids
Making Beeswax Candle Tips – Candles with the Kids
The warm illuminating glow it emits. That sweet and pleasant smell as the candle glimmers. Sigh! Few people are aware of how fun creating beeswax candles can be!
The art of beeswax candlemaking is a wonderful DIY project for your children. Since there is no melting of wax, the kids do not need to be near a hot stove. You won’t need to worry about obtaining the necessary materials or long hours of cleaning up with a beeswax candle making project.
Creating Beeswax Candle Tips - Items that You Do Need
- 8 inch by 16 inch sheets of beeswax
- Primed wick sliced for a one inch candle
- A small paring knife from your kitchen
- Flat open surface
- Lay out your sheet of beeswax
- Slice wick approximately 3/4 inches longer than wax sheet (allowing excess on both sides of candle)
Leaving available wick at each ends allows you the choice to decide which side of the candle you prefer as the top and which side the bottom.
Lay the wick on the sheet’s tip first, fold it over using approximately 1/8-inch of beeswax then begin rolling. This seam will enclose the wick securely. While rolling the wax forward and having it circle the wick tightly with your finger tips, remember to push it from one side to another. This is probably the most difficult step thorughout the process of making candles.
An alternative is if you flip over the beeswax, fold down the wax creating a 1/8 inch seam using either the counter corner or a cutting board. Either or – just make sure you obtain a perfect seam in the process.
Candle thickness is something you need to consider when you’re making your candle. To increase the candle’s thickness, use more beeswax. Do this by placing the additional wax sheet edge to edge with the original, melding the pieces together with your thumb. Make sure you don’t stop rolling the beeswax until it’s wrapped entirely around itself.
When you get to the end, gently push the edges of the beeswax down with your thumbs. Continue going along the whole length of the candle creating an invisible seam.
Choosing what you consider the best end of the candle for the top, trim the wick 1/2 above the wax. Don’t forget to remove the remaining wick from the bottom.
Although the younger ones might not find these parts enjoyable, you and other parents certainly would. Go on and don’t let anyone stop your candle from burning as brightly as your achievement—breathe in its lovely scent and take pleasure in your work! And as for your little ones? Gee – they made their own candle!
Be aware that the next steps for candlemaking are not much different with what others in your place had done centuries ago. At the start the whole point was to simply have light…a critical requirement in those instances. Now-a-days however, learning how to make wax candle is mostly a hobby. Or it can be for a variety of reasons. As stated previously, most of the time, it is for self gratification. Sometimes however, it is for giving as a gift on special occasions. A craft project like wax candle making is considered kid-friendly by most parents. Last but not the least is the profit you’ll get. Some people create candles to sell for their own individual business venture.
